Puppy Classes

Larkhill Small Animal Hospital puppy pre school classes are run every week by our experienced, qualified veterinary nurses.They are available to all breeds and types of puppies between the ages of 8 and 16 weeks. Classes are held in our large, clean welcoming waiting/reception area, after normal consulting hours are finished.These classes are designed to teach your puppy how to socialize with other dogs/pups, other people and also to give owners a basic understanding of animal health problems and how to deal with them. We also work on some basic obedience skills, such as sitting, dropping, stay and recall(come).

A comprehensive guide is included in our puppy packs that are handed out to each puppy (and their owners!) at the end of each class.

Topics that will be discussed during the classes include:

• toilet training
• chewing/teething
• digging
• aggression/dominance
• grooming/bathing
• diet
• vaccinations and health checks
• heartworm
• fleas
• worming and parasite control
• microchipping
• desexing
• whats considered an emergency?
• snake bite
• poisons/toxins
• pet insurance

Our aim is to have our graduates more relaxed when meeting new dogs and new people., whether out on the town or merely coming into the hospital when needed, as well preparing the puppies to transition onto more advanced obedience classes if needed. At the end of the day its all about having a happy, stress free puppy/dog that is a pleasure to have around as part of the family. Classes are run on weeknights at 7pm, and generally run as a block of 4 classes.
